The GameTime! Project
“This is the most I’ve been able to connect with him his whole life!” —aunt of a young man with autism
“I cant believe he’s participating!” —residential house manager
An Inclusible Play Project
What: Provide assessment, training, and support to your group so that you may improve upon your current activities or begin your own inclusible GameTime!
Why: Play is the perfect vehicle for individuals of all ages and abilities to connect with others, gain experiences and have fun. It’s a way to enhance quality of life.
Who: Any group, school, or agency interested in creating or improving inclusive play opportunities for young people and/or adults, including those with special challenges. We work with families, teachers, day program providers, residential homes, senior care facilities, etc. Diane Guendel is the lead facilitator.
How It Works
1) Initial Meeting: Together we will identify your needs and goals. (A group goal may be to increase the number of participants in activities. An individual goal may be to lengthen the time of engagement with others or to build skills or interests.) You will designate a leader who will initially work with us and eventually carry on your own GameTime! activities. We will decide on convenient days and times. Through simple surveys to be completed for each participant, we will plan for the needs of your unique group.
2) GameTime!: We will meet for up to an hour and a half with your players, weekly, for four weeks. We will bring our own materials and use what you have as well. Together with your GameTime! leader we will make assessments, try various activities, and experiment with techniques and modifications to foster engagement and enjoyment.
3) Final visit: We will provide specific recommendations based on what we have learned through our time with your individual participants. This may include supportive techniques, game modifications, best types of activities and how to find or make them, partner suggestions, and so on. We are always happy to remain in touch—to hear how it’s going and to keep on sharing!
Investment
The total cost is $920. Time and travel considerations will dictate availability of this project. We don’t want fees to create exclusions. Please contact us to discuss options, including grant partnerships.
