Photo Card Project
In Partnership with Live Work Learn
Live Work Learn is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building bigger lives for adults with autism. Together, we have created the Photo Card Project to develop new types of job opportunities that match individual interests, skills, and personality.
We use trial and assessment to determine what is needed for our workers to be successful and as independent as possible. Through unique supports and training, we set up each worker to succeed.
Potential for jobs from this project include:
Shop or farmers’ market sales
Data entry
Inventory management
Bookkeeping
Photography
Assembly work
Photo editing
Online sales
We introduced this project to Ben. What we have learned about this worker is that he likes people and he likes to be busy. He is most comfortable when he knows what exactly is expected of him when doing a job. Ben is visually strong and benefits from tools and visual supports to give him independence.
We thought Ben may like the job of stamping the backs of the cards. He did!
Next we realized Ben needed some way to know exactly where to put the stamp, so we created a guide or a jig. That did the trick and significantly increased his independence with this task.
This job is now an option for Ben. He can join with others working on different parts of this project. As a next step, he might like to be part of a group selling the cards at a farmer’s market.
